
Michael D. Assaf
Michael D. Assaf practices in the areas of matrimonial and family law, civil litigation, personal injury, bankruptcy, commercial and corporate finance, creditors rights, real estate, estate planning, probate and surrogate’s court litigation. His multidisciplinary approach to the law gives his clients a unique advantage in resolving problems that extend across legal disciplines as well as in maintaining continuity of representation for different legal issues faced by clients over time.
Most recently Mr. Assaf has expanded his practice into the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution and was retained on the first collaborative divorce case in the Capital District. Collaborative Law is a method of resolving disputes that allows counsel and affiliated professionals to facilitate the resolution of disputes free of the fear of litigated proceedings.
A graduate of the University of Michigan with high honors and distinction and a cum laude graduate of Boston University School of Law, Mr. Assaf also holds an MBA in Finance from the State University of New York at Albany. Admitted to the practice of law in the State of New York in 1987 and in the Commonwealth of Masachusetts in 1986, Mr. Assaf began his career in New York City with Proskauer, Rose, Goetz and Mendelsohn (n/k/a Proskauer, Rose, LLC). Mr. Assaf spent ten (10) years practicing at the Albany firm of O’Connell and Aronowitz before opening Assaf & Mackenzie, PLLC with Melody Mackenzie in 2006.
In addition to being a member of the New York Bar, Mr. Assaf is admitted to practice before the courts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Federal Courts in Massachusetts and in the Northern District of New York. He is a member of the Albany County Bar Association, the International Association of Collaborative Professionals and the Collaborative Divorce Association of the Capital District.
